He Kept His Promise

What began as one teacher's broken heart has become a mission to share God's love by meeting practical needs.

While George Hanson taught math in a rural village in Ghana, he witnessed staggering levels of poverty, hardship, and suffering. Most families lived on an average household income of $1 – $2 a day. Adequate facilities were hundreds of miles away.

After leaving Ghana in 1999, Hanson vowed to return one day with aid.

Hanson and his wife Jean, moved to Folsom, CA and in early 2005 made good on that promise, by starting Changing Lives Together (CLT) and employing a dedicated in-country team of local leaders, project managers, healthcare professionals, educators, and volunteers who live in the communities they serve.

The CLT team knows the culture, understands the challenges, and has earned the trust of their communities.

Bayside is excited to support CLT through the NXT Initiative.  Thanks to your generosity, you are helping CLT construct of a new outpatient, maternity, newborn care hospital in Gomoa Afranse, Ghana. Once operational, this clinic will provide vital healthcare services, maternity and newborn care, pediatric care, outpatient, emergency care, imaging, and a pharmacy.

This life-changing project is making steady progress, with recent work focused on essential infrastructure such as clean water and sewer systems, storm drainage, erosion control, and retaining walls to support the facility and surrounding property.

The next phase includes installing water storage and treatment systems, connecting the facility to the electrical grid, adding a backup generator, and equipping the hospital with critical medical equipment, furnishings, and final site improvements. Each step brings the project closer to opening its doors and serving the community.

Once operational, this clinic will provide vital healthcare services in a region where access to quality medical care is limited. Thousands of community members each year, including expectant mothers, newborns, children, and families, will receive care that could dramatically improve and even save lives.
