The impact of the NXT Initiative reaches beyond the walls of Bayside. Through the funds made available by NXT, we have the opportunity to support organizations serving people in our own community—organizations that are meeting real needs, building relationships, and helping people take meaningful steps toward a better future.
One of those organizations is Jake’s Journey Home, a local, community-based volunteer organization serving unhoused veterans and community members who are working toward a significant change in their lives.
Jake’s Journey Home connects people with the resources and relationships they need. Their wrap-around support includes mental health services, therapy, medical assistance, substance abuse support, job training, vocational skills, higher education opportunities, and assistance with basic needs such as food, DMV services, Social Security support, and access to essential identification cards. Peer support and life coaching are also part of their work, helping individuals move from where they are today toward greater stability and self-sufficiency.
Their mobile outreach trailer allows Jake’s Journey Home to bring those resources directly to people in the Sacramento community. Rather than waiting for someone to navigate a complicated system on their own, their team meets people where they are and connects them with services to help.
Earlier this year, Jake’s Journey Home reached an important milestone with the opening of its Community Assist Center in Orangevale. The center provides a welcoming, sustainable place where individuals at risk can find critical resources, begin rebuilding stability, and take practical steps toward a brighter future.
Supporting organizations like Jake’s Journey Home is one way the NXT Initiative is helping extend the reach of Bayside into the community around us. It allows us to come alongside people and organizations already doing meaningful work and invest in practical expressions of hope, dignity, and care.
What happens through NXT isn't limited to a campaign or a building—it becomes an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people right here in our community.
